The Stephania plant is a unique vining plant that grows from a tuber, often referred to as a “bulb.” This tuber stores water, allowing Stephania to tolerate longer periods without watering, typically lasting up to 2–3 weeks when mature. During its growing season (spring and summer), it will sprout delicate, round leaves on slender vines, which can reach up to several feet if given support. The bulbous tuber is both functional and fascinating—it helps the plant survive dry spells by storing moisture, making it a low-maintenance choice. In dormant periods (fall and winter), the plant may lose its leaves and require minimal or no watering, allowing it to rest until the next growing season.
