What are the pros and cons of keeping the blooming stalk?
Here are some summaries in case you missed it:
Pros:
- Pretty to look at
- If you are into Cross Pollination of succulents and having a few succulents blooming at the same time, you can keep the blooms. That is one of the process if you want to try out seed propagation.
Cons:
- Bloom uses up nutrients from mother plant
- Blooming stalk will affect the rosette look of a succulents, turning it stretchy and leggy
- Might attract pests, especially mealy bugs
To cut or not to cut? We chose to cut it, to have the mother plant focuses its energy back to itself. Still keeping the blooming stalk cuttings as deco item before they dry up, they are such a beauty!
