Making your own scented candle is simpler than it looks, and you get full control over the fragrance, style, and ingredients. Start by melting wax—soy wax is a popular choice because it burns cleanly—in a double boiler setup. Once the wax is fully melted, remove it from heat and let it cool slightly before adding your chosen fragrance oil or essential oil. Stir gently to distribute the scent evenly. Meanwhile, secure a wick at the center of your container, such as a glass jar or tin. Carefully pour the scented wax into the container, keeping the wick upright. Allow the candle to cool and harden completely, which can take a few hours. Once set, trim the wick to about a quarter inch, and your handmade scented candle is ready to use or gift. You can also experiment with dried flowers, colors, or layered scents to create a more personalized and decorative result.
